01Information we collect
Echo collects only what it needs to deliver and grade your assessments.
- User ID & profile Echo uses the roll number / user ID issued by Aditya University to sign you in. Your name and batch, as held in the University's records, are shown in the app so you can confirm the assessment is yours.
- Assessment responses Your answers are collected so they can be graded: multiple-choice selections, typed written responses, and audio recordings of your spoken and read-aloud answers.
- Scores & results Your section scores, total score and level (e.g. CEFR band) are generated and stored as part of your assessment record.
- Authentication token The token that keeps you signed in is stored securely on your device.
- Assessment-integrity events During a live assessment, Echo records certain on-device events used to keep the test fair — see “Assessment integrity monitoring” below.
02Microphone & audio recording
Echo requests microphone access for the Speaking and Reading-aloud sections. Recording starts only after you begin one of these tasks, and you can see when a recording is in progress.
Because spoken answers must be evaluated, your audio responses are uploaded to the University's assessment systems for grading. Audio is transmitted over an encrypted connection and stored as part of your assessment record.
Recording happens only during the Speaking and Reading-aloud tasks of an active assessment. Echo does not listen to or record you at any other time.
03Assessment integrity monitoring
Echo assessments are proctored to keep them fair for everyone. While an assessment is in progress, and only during that time, the app records integrity events such as leaving full-screen mode or switching away from the app. These events may be sent to the University's systems and attached to your attempt.
This monitoring is limited to how you interact with the Echo app during a test. Echo does not monitor other apps, your browsing, or anything you do outside an active assessment.
04How we use information
The information collected is used only to:
- Authenticate you as a member of the University.
- Deliver the assessments assigned to you.
- Grade your responses, including your spoken answers, and produce scores and levels.
- Keep your assessment results available to you and the University.
- Maintain the integrity and fairness of proctored assessments.
- Improve the app's reliability and security.
05What we never collect
Echo does not collect, access or request any of the following:
- Location
- Contacts
- Photos & videos from your library
- Camera / video recording
- Financial information
- Health information
- Advertising identifiers
- Social media accounts
06Data sharing
Your responses, recordings and results are available to Aditya University and its authorised faculty and assessors for the purpose of evaluating your performance. Responses may be processed by the University's grading and evaluation systems, including automated scoring where applicable.
Echo does not sell, rent or share your information with advertisers or marketing companies. Information may be disclosed only where the law requires it.
07Data security
All communication between the app and our backend is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. Your authentication token is stored securely on your device using the platform's own secure storage (Keychain on iOS, Keystore on Android).
08Data retention
Your responses, recordings, scores and integrity records are retained as part of your academic assessment record, in line with Aditya University's policies. Your authentication token is kept only for as long as it takes to keep you signed in securely, and is removed when you log out.
09Account & data deletion
Echo accounts are issued and managed by Aditya University. To request deletion of your account and associated data, follow the steps on the account deletion page. Requests are normally completed within 30 days, subject to records the University is required to retain.
10Children's privacy
Echo is intended for authorised students, faculty and staff of Aditya University. It is not designed for children under the age of 13.
11Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. The current version will always be available on this page, with the revised “last updated” date shown at the top.
